What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is made up of a naturally occurring substance known as hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar-based component that occurs naturally in your connective tissues (including the skin).  Its major role is to provide lubrication for the joints, however, its water-binding and elastic properties also provide a skin-plumping effect. Hyaluronic acid’s role in the skin is to deliver nutrients and hydrate the skin by holding in water and acting as a cushioning agent. When Juvederm is injected into facial tissue, it acts a bit like a sponge, drawing water molecules from the surrounding area and plumping up the skin.

What is Juvederm Used to Treat?

Juvederm is a fantastic wrinkle filler that restores youthful volume while smoothing out depressed areas of the skin. This dermal filler is often used to improve the appearance of marionette lines, smile lines, wrinkles, vertical lip lines and to augment the lips.

How is Juvederm Administered?

Juvederm injections are supplemented with the local anesthetic lidocaine for enhanced comfort during treatment. Juvederm gels are injected just below the surface of the skin using an ultra-fine needle and treatment typically takes less than 1 hour. Most of our patients feel comfortable returning back to work or other normal activites immediately after their Austin Juvederm treatment. Juvederm results can be seen instantly after treatment is administered. Depending on where Juvederm is injected, results can last anywhere from 6 months to a year before repeat treatment is needed.
